Mission Statement

TCS is a ministry of International Christian Assembly for offering a high quality education to children in a Christian environment. The school reaches out to a multicultural/linguistic/religious population to glorify God through growing students spiritually, academically, socially, and physically in a Christ-like and "scriptural" environment.

"Growing People, Glorifying God"

Philosophy of TCS Education

TCS views "training up" students as a complex and interactive set of activities. When done well, educating a student requires training his/her head (academics), heart (character), spirit (God), and hand (conduct). Every teaching moment involves a dimension of all these characteristics. At TCS with a multicultural student body it is essential that basic academic fundamentals are stressed. The basics in reading, writing, and arithmetic then progress to more complex learning requirements. The press is towards higher order reasoning and thinking skills as well as to develop the creative capacities of each student. Methods of teaching are designed to progress from the concrete to the abstract. Motivational incentives trend from the extrinsic to encouraging students to act out of Biblically held intrinsic motives.

It is evident that the training of the head depends largely on the training of the heart or what TCS refers to as character and attitude. Character training is essential for life and emphasis is given to developing self-discipline, self-responsibility, respect, integrity, interdependence, truthfulness, and commitment. The result of heart training shows up in the conduct of the hand. So, there is considerable attention given to the conduct or behavior of the students. It is held that while most conduct flows from the heart, it is also true that conduct flows back to the heart. So, there is a conscious effort to provide incentives for good behavior or right living to train attitudes of the heart.

The head, the heart, and the hand are all important in the TCS training process. But the essential and central ingredient is God and His written word the Bible. This, then, forms the absolutes against which training at TCS is filtered for use in curriculum, extracurricular, personal, and interpersonal exchanges. Since God created and sustains everything through His Son, Jesus Christ, the world and life are God centered and should glorify Him. Man being a sinner by nature and choice, however, cannot in this condition glorify or know God. He can do this only by being recreated in God’s image through committing his life to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. The total process of education, therefore, must seek to restore the student to a position of true knowledge, righteousness, and holiness in Christ. This is done by developing and relating the whole person to God spiritually, academically, socially, and physically.

Both a written curriculum and a living curriculum are essential in training students. To this end TCS stresses an environment that is wholly Christian. It is essential the faculty and staff live lives that are Christ-like and display the same behaviors that are being taught. Staff must be living role models both on and off campus as live demonstrations of what is being taught.

TCS holds that parents have been charged Biblically to be the primary trainer of their children and that at best a school can only be a partner in the process. Thus, TCS will strive to keep parents informed, involved, and in charge of the education of their children. And when possible it will provide support, consultation, information, and training regarding the tasks of parenting in our times.
